Drink in that ruby-purple color with your eyes before you get a whiff of the wonderfully layered nose: red cherry, blackberry pie dusted with nutmeg, and a nosegay of violets and herbs. Medium-bodied but wonderfully intense in the mouth with spiced fruits and a firm frame of grainy tannins. Worth an hour of decanting or another decade in the cellar for maximum pleasure.
Medium ruby-purple, the 2017 Pinot Noir Sun Chase Vineyard has a wonderfully layered nose of red cherry, blackberry pie, grated nutmeg, smoked meats, violets and savory herbs. Medium-bodied, it's got wonderfully intense spiced fruits in the mouth, a firm frame of grainy tannins and a very long, nuanced finish. Yum! Give this an hour or two in the decanter.
The 2017 Pinot Noir Sun Chase Vineyard is also outstanding. Destemmed and aged 11 months in French oak, its medium ruby color is followed by youthful notes of blackcurrants, smoked earth, and graphite. It’s fresh, focused, and concentrated on the palate, and is tight and backward yet loaded with potential. Give bottles a year or two.
