Named for Lee Martinelli Sr’s Uncle Tony, who, according to the family, “was a very charismatic man with a big booming voice who loved a good time. His broad handsome smile is still legendary in the old farming community of western Sonoma County.” Sounds like the wine is a lot like its namesake! “Rich, racy and forward, with striking fruit intensity, the Zio Tony has an immediate allure that is impossible to resist.
The 2017 Zio Tony Ranch Pinot Noir has a sweet spicy nose with aromas of cherry, raspberry, and sweet leather. This wine is bright and lively on the palate with flavors of red cherry, pomegranate, and hints of orange peel in the vibrant finish.
Our tastings with the utterly vivacious Regina Martinelli, sales director for her family's 130-year-old winery, are always showstoppers. Every one of this winery's Chardonnays, Pinots Noirs, Syrahs, and Zinfandels is outstanding. If we know anything about what we're doing, the wines are going to turn you on. They have it all: brilliantly expressive fruit, concentration, and complexity. It's not often that a winery comes by and reminds us why we love wine so much. Put together a mixed case and experience the thrill for yourself. Most of these wines are sold only through the winery and are very hard to find.
