We scored big on this one. A restaurant only, limited allocation of the ‘Dierke’. An organically certified hillside vineyard nestled just off Bodega Highway that produces notoriously exuberant and powerful Pinot. Bold dark notes of succulent blackberry, ripe black cherry, and crushed cassis. Intriguing floral hints of dried lavender and violets lend a delicate touch to the mid palate, interwoven with warm spice elements of nutmeg and clove. A must have for Pinot lovers.
The 2017 Pinot Noir Dierke is powerful, rich and heady, all of which make it an absolutely joy to taste. The heat of the year comes through in the wine’s virile feel and overall intensity. Dried flowers, mint, tobacco, cedar and licorice all add aromatic nuance, but more than anything else, the Dierke is a Pinot of structure. The 40% stems work so well here, but I would give the wine time in bottle to allow the tannins to soften.
