Skylark Wine Company was founded by John Lancaster and Robert Perkins, friends who share an appreciation for wines of place from around the world. When it comes to white wine, they’ve long admired the flavorful, aromatic wines of Alsace and Austria. In reds, they seek to uncover in California the same full-bodied spice that’s captured their attention in the Rhone Valley and south of France. John and Robert bring a restaurant industry’s perspective to wine. John is the Wine Director of James Beard award winning Boulevard Restaurant, where Robert has worked as a Sommelier for the past decade. In their exploration of the California landscape, they discovered Rodgers Creek nestled in the hills above Petaluma, a region that comes to life in this vintage.

Always one of my favorites in the lineup, the 2017 Syrah Rodgers Creek Vineyard comes from a site in the Petaluma Gap and was two-thirds destemmed and aged in 50% new French oak. Classic Syrah gamey notes of ground pepper, bay leaf, and assorted dark fruits give way to a medium to full-bodied, nicely concentrated, balanced Syrah that will evolve gracefully for a decade.
