2018 Anthem 'Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard' Cabernet Sauvignon St. Helena

$149.95

The aromatic profile on the 2018 grabs you by the collar immediately. Dark cherries, blackberries and currants swim in dark chocolate with herbs, spices, soil and tobacco. Sit with that rich bouquet for a moment, because once you take a sip the grip just tightens. Full-bodied and textured, layers of fruit and velvet tannins lead the way towards a long, long finish. This is well-built to withstand the years, if you’re well-built to withstand the temptation.

Wine & Spirits

Jeff Ames makes this wine at Anthem, a project started in 2009 by Julie and Justin Arbuckle. The fruit comes from a 22-acre cabernet vineyard at the base of Spring Mountain, a site originally planted to vines in the 1840s. The benchland location and its pebbly soils make it an ideal spot for cabernet, producing this idealized 2018, shining with red fruit through its depths of black-currant freshness. The fruit is sweet but the wine is grounded to the earth, its classical structure a parallel to the muscular energy of a marathon runner. Offering up its grace and substance if you approach it now, this will only gain momentum for many years to come.
