2018 Anthem Cabernet Sauvignon Mount Veeder

Structured, with grip and length, this wine is ripe and rich in style with tremendous tannins. Chalky in texture, it provides layers of cassis, vanilla and clove, with the mountain appellation's signature earthiness and herbal underrates. This will do well to cellar; enjoy best from 2028–2038.

Richly fruity, with a deep well of boysenberry, fig and blackberry compote notes that won't quit, pumping along while licorice, fruitcake and ganache notes fill in. This has a roasted apple wood frame and a late tug of cast iron, which keep it all grounded.

From the estate vineyard on Mount Veeder, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is marked by dark, plummy fruit and scents of loamy earth, cedar and mocha. Full-bodied, richly textured and concentrated, it's clearly a mountain wine—tannic, rugged and muscular on the finish. Give it a few years in the cellar before pulling a cork.
