Sourced from a site planted mainly to Pinot Noir just 3 miles inland from the Pacific Ocean, “JoAnn’s Block” at Doc’s Ranch is a one acre parcel planted to Chardonnay. It underwent full malolactic fermentation and spent 17 months in 25% new French Oak. Rich but balanced aromas of toast, buttered popcorn and marzipan lead to a balanced but forward palate. Flavors of red apples, peach pit and fresh bread lead into a saline-driven finish that wraps up the wine nicely.

JoAnn’s Block at Doc’s Ranch is a 0.4ha parcel of Chardonnay within a 3.6ha vineyard almost entirely planted with Pinot Noir, just 5km inland from the Pacific Ocean. It underwent full malolactic fermentation and spent 17 months in 25% new French oak. Rich but balanced aromas of toast, buttered popcorn and marzipan lead to a balanced but forward palate. Flavours of red apples, peach pits and freshly baked bread lead into a saline-driven finish.

Vinous

The 2018 Chardonnay Doc's Ranch: JoAnn's Block is a very distinctive wine. Dried flowers, mint, sage, chamomile, apricot, crushed rocks and almond are nicely layered. The 2018 is intensely mineral and savory, while the fruit is very much pushed into the background.
