2018 Crocker & Starr AVA Cabernet Franc Blend Napa Valley
Some folks might say a nice Cabernet Franc is too much wine for the lowly hotdog but we say, what’s a dog but a delicious sausage sandwich waiting to happen? Go crazy and make it an all-beef Coney Island style chili dog if you’ve got the fixings and you’ve just put together a championship team.
Wine Advocate
The 2018 A.V.A. Napa Valley Blend of Cabernet Franc is composed of 70% Cabernet Franc, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Malbec and 10% Petit Verdot. Deep garnet-purple in color, it races out of the glass with fragrant notes of kirsch, black raspberries and Black Forest cake with hints of pencil shavings, crushed rocks and cinnamon stick. The palate is medium to full-bodied with a firm backbone of finely grained tannins and a lively line supporting the perfumed red and black fruits, finishing on a lingering mineral note. 1,000 cases were made.
Wine Spectator
Ripe and focused, with a core of gently steeped plum and mulberry notes laced with violets, singed vanilla and a whiff of singed alder. Long, fine-grained finish. Nicely done. Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2030.
