Always one of Etienne and Mathilde Grivot's stand-out Premier Cru reds, this is not the most immediate of their cuvées at a young age, often displaying some grip and tannic backbone as well as a hint of meaty reduction, but the fruit concentration and depth is remarkable here, supported by chalky minerality and scented 30% new wood. The 2018 Vosne-Romanée Les Beaux Monts 1er Cru, a particular favorite of Etienne Grivot, was one of the crus that showed some reduction on the nose, rendering it difficult to read at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, quite focused and precise, with red and black fruit tinged with brown spices and a tang of orange peel toward the finish. It is missing just a little weight at the moment but it should spread its wings once in bottle.
