2018 E. Guigal Hermitage Rouge
Another impressive standard-bearer from Guigal, this 2018 from Hermitage harkens back to the wonderful 2016 but with even more oomph on the mid-palate. The bouquet is immediately alluring with violets and crushed stone surrounding the classic cassis. Full-bodied and expansive in the mouth, with no shortage of power and the lingering, creamy finish is pure satisfaction. Dunnuck’s summation is that, “it could be a read superstar and drink well above its price point.”

The 2018 Hermitage has similarities to the 2016 yet with a touch more mid-palate oomph. Notes of cassis, smoked game, vanilla, and a touch of minerality all emerge from the glass, and it’s a full-bodied, silky, sexy wine that shows the purity of the vintage. It could be a real superstar and drink well above its price point.
