The 2018 growing season was picture perfect, with an even cadence of warm days and cool nights that brought the grapes to ideal ripeness with deft balance. The fermentations showed the same steady, gentle, and fresh qualities that typified the growing season, yielding generous, plush wines with an underlying tension that imbues the wines with energy and lift. This ideal growing season, along with the increasing age of the vines, have delivered a quintessential expression of the site's personality, delivering all the suppleness of the valley floor, but with the vivid, enervated character of mountain fruit.

Composed of 91.78% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8.22% Petit Verdot, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Encosta has a deep garnet-purple color and explodes with a wall of fruit aromas—blackcurrant jelly, baked black cherries, blueberry compote and boysenberries—with underlying suggestions of cedar, cardamom and Indian spices plus a waft of menthol. Big, rich and full-bodied in the mouth, it has a beautiful velvety texture and loads of spicy sparks, finishing with a refreshing lift. 1,150 cases were made.
