There are few Napa legends still making wine today, so when the opportunity arises to experience the craft straight from the master himself, we jump. George W. Hendry founded Hendry Ranch in 1939 and is still the only one allowed to call the shots on how his masterpieces are made. From one of the oldest documented Chardonnay vineyards in Napa, comes this ultra-rich, yet utterly refreshing, 100% barrel-fermented Chardonnay. This is truly a snapshot of what Napa once was.
“The nose offers-up tantalizing tropical fruit scents of guava, green mango and pineapple tart with hints of toasted almonds and brioche. The palate is rich, satiny textured and full-bodied, delivering bags of pure, expressive fruit and loads of savory accents, finishing with great length. It has the stuffing to age for about a decade or more and should well reward a few years in cellar. Serious Chardonnay!” RP
Aged 11 months in French oak, one-third new, the 2018 Chardonnay Barrel Fermented is a classic wine with plenty of caramelized peach, toasted bread, spice, and a hint of green almond in a medium-bodied, nicely balanced, elegant style. Offering well-integrated acidity and plenty of length on the finish, this is a solid, outstanding Chardonnay to enjoy over the coming 2-4 years.
