A great vintage for an exceptional wine, this Burgundy is dominated by red fruit in the intense, fresh nose. Complexity evolves over time in smokey flavors, licorice, pepper, tobacco and undergrowth. The body shows beautiful balance, fleshy and firm without any roughness, both lively and refined. Roundness and precision will come with age, supported by the same silky tannins that linger on the palate.
The 2018 Beaune Clos des Mouches Rouge 1er Cru has a very pure, charming bouquet of layers of dark cherry, raspberry coulis and blueberry aromas, with just a touch of warmth from the slightly higher level of alcohol. The medium-bodied palate delivers saturated tannins. Lush and generous, almost New World-like in terms of fruit profiles, with a caressing finish. Lovely.
