2018 Kathryn Kennedy 'Estate' Cabernet Sauvignon Santa Cruz Mountains

This vintage comes from a extra warm growing season and has yielded a powerful, flamboyant Cabernet with brooding dark flavors of sweet black cherry syrup and deep forest impressions. Earthy minerals, dark chocolate raspberry and balsamic flavors are presented on a very plush and thick palate. IMO this 2018 sits at a level below the greatest Kathryn Kennedy bottlings and thus its $99.00 price reflects my opinion. I have seen vintages with a character of rusticity like this before and they do develop well with patience.
This tiny, iconic estate vineyard has been dedicated solely to exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon since Kathryn herself planted the first vines in 1973.
