$275.00
JD100WA99

After 20 months in 75% new French oak, this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon sails out of the glass with soaring notes of crème to cassis, blueberry preserves and Black Forest cake. Black truffle and charcoal bring it back down to earth in the best possible way. Perfection in a glass, right out the gate, just imagine the bright future ahead for this regal wine from a mix of the finest Napa Valley AVAs. Lail never fails to impress!

It’s not hard to figure out why Robin Daniel Lail is making some of the most elite wines in the Napa Valley. She’s had some time to prepare. Not only did she grow up looking over her father John Daniel’s shoulder in Inglenook Winery in Rutherford, she worked for Robert Mondavi for 5 years, then in 1982, she co-founded Dominus with Christian Moueix, and in 1983, co-founded Merryvale Vineyards with Bill Harlan, where she served as President for ten years. She founded Lail in 1995. We call that a track record. Lail’s winemaker is Philippe Melka, one of the finest winemakers in our little sylvan valley, not to mention the world. He’s worked for Lail since the beginning, not to mention Dominus Estate in Rutherford and Château Petrus in Pomerol. Not exactly a lightweight, as they say.

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon J. Daniel Cuvée comes from a mix of terroirs (Howell Mountain, Stags Leap, Oakville, Calistoga) and is brought up in 75% new French oak. Heavenly notes of red and black currants, dried tobacco, sandalwood, flowers and spice give way to a full-bodied, concentrated, yet weightless texture that carries awesome tannins, no hard edges and just flawless balance. This majestic, regal wine is going to drink brilliantly for 25 years or more.

Wine Advocate

Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2018 J. Daniel Cuvée Cabernet Sauvignon was aged for 20 months in French oak barrels, 75% new. Very deep garnet-purple in color, it soars out of the glass with seductive notes of crème de cassis, blueberry preserves and Black Forest cake, followed by suggestions of espresso, yeast extract, black truffles and charcoal plus a fragrant waft of violets. Full-bodied, rich and opulently fruited in the mouth, it has layer upon layer of black fruit preserves, earthy nuances and savory sparks, framed by firm, finely grained tannins and bold freshness, finishing long and fragrant.
