The 2018 is, simply put, “flat-out gorgeous.” Vinous further calls this elegant, silken treasure “the most distinctive Zinfandel in this range,” and we couldn’t agree more. A saline nose with apricots, red berries and black tea bursts from the glass. Bright acidity and floral overtones add nuance to the layers of sweet, ripe fruit, carrying through to a long, full finish. Medium bodied, beautifully textured, this Russian River Zinfandel is a sensation.
Our tastings with the utterly vivacious Regina Martinelli, sales director for her family's 130-year-old winery, are always showstoppers. Every one of this winery's Chardonnays, Pinots Noirs, Syrahs, and Zinfandels is outstanding. If we know anything about what we're doing, the wines are going to turn you on. They have it all: brilliantly expressive fruit, concentration, and complexity. It's not often that a winery comes by and reminds us why we love wine so much. Put together a mixed case and experience the thrill for yourself. Most of these wines are sold only through the winery and are very hard to find.
The 2018 Zinfandel Giuseppe & Luisa is, in my view, once again the most distinctive Zinfandel in this range. Bright acids, floral overtones and chiseled red fruit scream with Russian River character. Medium in body, gracious and beautifully perfumed, the Giuseppe & Luisa is flat-out gorgeous. I loved it. Drinking window: 2023 - 2033.
