2018 Merry Edwards 'Klopp Ranch Vineyard' Pinot Noir Russian River Valley
This classic Klopp Ranch is luxuriant with black raspberry and blackberry pie with some very ripe Bing cherry. The bouquet blooms into hints of lavender and toasted brioche. The medium body is silky and loaded with aromatic layers, all framed in round, chocolate-dipped tannins and juicy acidity that makes the next sip irresistible.
Wine Enthusiast
Forest, clove, oak and thick tannin make for a hearty entry into this perennially impressive vineyard-designate—one of the producer's earliest partnerships. Weighty and powerful, it offers forest floor, tea and wild strawberry, the acidity lasting and lively.
Wine Spectator
Svelte and fine-edged, with savory richness to the well-structured dark cherry, plum and dark currant flavors. Dense finish is filled with forest floor notes.
Wine Advocate
Medium ruby-purple, the 2018 Pinot Noir Klopp Ranch offers aromas of cranberries, rhubarb and blackberries with notes of earth, tar and woodsmoke. The medium-bodied palate has pretty, earth-laced fruits with a grainy frame and uncomplicated finish. This feels youthfully mute and may open up with some more time in bottle.
Vinous
The 2018 Pinot Noir Klopp Ranch is a racy wine. Super-ripe dark cherry, plum, cola, spice and blood orange all open up nicely in the glass. There is plenty of Russian River exuberance. The finish is a bit tight, but otherwise, this is very nicely done.
