2018 Round Pond 'Bovet Reserve' Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley


The Louis Bovet Reserve pays homage to the co-founder's grandfather, who was dedicated in his time to home winemaking. Thomas Rivers Brown consulted on this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, stemming from a near-perfect growing season in Round Pond’s Rutherford estate. An expressive nose of crushed raspberry with cream and sarsaparilla makes for an inviting opening. Acidity and tannins are on point, conspiring with rich fruit to build a beautiful, balanced Cab. The wine is a showcase of terroir, with unmistakable Rutherford Dust holding through the lingering finish. 

Round Pond is the epitome of the modern Napa Valley wine estate. Located at the Rutherford crossroads between Beaulieu and Caymus wineries, it's a family-owned and operated estate consisting of organically and sustainably tended vineyards, gardens and orchards. In addition to making limited quantities of world-class Cabernet Sauvignon, proprietors Ryan and Miles MacDonnell, whose parents founded Round Pond in the early 1980s, produce award-winning olive oils and prized red wine vinegars.

Sumptuous, full-bodied, textured style carrying lots of darker currants and blue fruits as well as notes of tobacco, sappy herbs, flowers, and earth. It’s already drinking beautifully yet has enough tannins to allow it to evolve for 20 years.

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Louis Bovet emerges from blocks on the eastern side of the property. Bright red berry fruit, spice, licorice, mint and gravel. The more elegant, nuanced side of Napa Valley comes through nicely in this mid-weight offering. Drink it over the next few years.
