George Burrage and Thomas Tucker bought land for Vine Cliff Winery from the Yount (Yountville) Estate, building it into the largest winery in the valley. That sordid beast, phylloxera destroyed the Vine Cliff vineyards and winery in the last days of the 1800s. The "ghost winery” sat brokenhearted for 85 years until it was adopted by the Sweeney Family and reclaimed its throne. This Cabernet Sauvignon is a fitting tribute to such a storied winery. Polished and elegant, with dark plum, blackberry compote and cassis fruit joined on the nose and the palate by warm notes of cocoa and tobacco. A hint of loam and allspice add further richness and complexity on the lingering finish.
