Switchback Ridge crafts estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petite Sirah from the Peterson Family Vineyard in Calistoga, Napa Valley. In 1914, Eliza and Mads Peterson, immigrants from Ireland and Denmark, purchased 100 acres at the mouth of Dutch Henry Canyon. Initially planting Zinfandel, they switched to prunes during Prohibition. Their daughters maintained the property, preserving the family legacy. Today, Kelly Peterson continues the tradition, naming Switchback Ridge after the winding trails her father explored as a child. Expect aromas of dark chocolate-covered blackberries, red cherry, and plum, with flavors of espresso and raspberry in this powerful, full-bodied Merlot, perfect for aging over the next decade. Cheers to history and a fine glass of wine!

A stunning value, the 2019 Merlot Peterson Family Vineyard offers a round, layered, incredibly sexy and seamless style to go with classic Merlot ripe black cherries, pipe tobacco, chocolate, and roasted herb-like aromas and flavors. There's 9% Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend, and it was raised in 75% new French oak. I'd be thrilled to drink a glass any time over the coming 10-15 years.
