2020 Grgich Hills Estate 'Paris Tasting Commemorative - Estate' Chardonnay Napa Valley

(Net Item - no discounts apply)

In celebration of Miljenko "Mike" Grgich's 100th birthday, we present this extraordinary vintage as a fitting tribute to his lasting legacy. The 2020 vintage, marked by challenging conditions such as record-breaking heat waves and significantly low rainfall, proved to be immensely rewarding. Despite the adversities, our meticulously tended vines adapted, producing grapes of exceptional quality with low yields. Our focus on the Old Wente clone of Chardonnay, planted in 1989 in the Carneros region of Napa Valley, resulted in rich and balanced flavors. Certified as regenerative organic, our vineyards uphold the highest standards of grape quality and environmental stewardship.

This centennial Chardonnay boasts enticing aromas of lemon, peach, and pineapple, complemented by apple, caramel, and vanilla notes. Its soft texture unfolds into a delightful interplay of citrus and stone fruit flavors, accompanied by vibrant acidity and subtle minerality, leading to a lingering aromatic finish.

Grgich separated out the best parcels for the 2020 Chardonnay Paris Tasting Commemorative (he made the Chateau Montelena Chardonnay that performed so well at the 1976 Paris tasting). Made without malolactic fermentation, it boasts attractive notes of grilled pear and pineapple, plus hints of toasted hazelnuts or cashews. Medium to full-bodied, it's plump and generous, with a silky texture and ample length, a worthy tribute to his long career.
