2021 Cobb 'Monticue' Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast
The 2021 Monticue Pinot Noir exudes depth and intensity, offering a brooding, masculine contrast to Cobb’s neighboring vineyards. Plush and layered, it reveals dark red fruits, earthy undertones, and a structured profile, shaped by the vineyard’s east-facing exposure and youthful vines. Morning sun gently warms the soils, creating a balance of power and finesse in every sip. A bold yet nuanced expression of Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir from a site cultivated with Ross Cobb’s expert guidance since its inception.

Wine Advocate
The 2021 Pinot Noir Monticue Vineyard, made with 90% whole clusters, has deep aromas of red cherry and pomegranate, plus continually unfurling tones of rosewater and bergamot, oolong tea leaves, conifer and mushrooms. The medium-bodied palate is bursting with concentrated, detailed fruit. It has a frame of chalky tannins, fireworks of fresh acidity and a very long, fragrant finish. This offers so much prettiness and power at the same time, and it will be long lived in the cellar.

Vinous
The 2021 Pinot Noir Monticue is a broad, ample Pinot that marries intense fruit with complicating savory/earthy notes from the 90% whole clusters and structure to burn. Wild cherry, spice, leather, tobacco, menthol and incense fill out the layers effortlessly. This virile, imposing Pinot has a ton to offer.

East facing across the lane from Emmaline Anne, 90% whole cluster, this wine and winemaking shows intense floral aromas, sweet blue and red berries, red plums, frankincense, pine tar and mint, and lots of white pepper and spice. The two wines (along with Emmaline Anne) are the yin and yang of Jonive Road. Candied blue fruits come from the east-facing morning sun, says Ross Cobb. It is counterintuitive as the western sun on the cast is accompanied by cool sea air. Drinking Window: 2024 - 2036
