2021 Signorello 'Signori Estate' Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
The 2021 Signori is a resounding combination of aromatic complexity, herbal nuances and a sumptuous palette. Bright cherry, plum preserves, cassis greet you on the nose, leading into well woven notes of crushed potpourri, tea leaves, bergamot, sage and mocha. Expressive acidity draws you into a long, lasting finish of espresso, dark chocolate and cloves that continue to evolve as you sip and enjoy your glass. Drink now or wait, this wine will last the test of time.
We love those occasions when fate throws a wrench into someone's plan and everything turns out better than he ever could have mapped it himself. Such was the case with Ray Signorello Sr., who purchased a 100-acre estate in and around Napa Valley's Stags' Leap District with the plan to grow and sell grapes to existing wineries. All was going well until a surplus crop in 1985 left Ray with more fruit than he could possibly off-load. A glass half full kind of guy, Ray decided to give custom crush a shot. The results were so tasty; he realized that if he could make drinkable wine, then a real winemaker could work magic with such top-notch fruit. Since that 1985 experiment, Signorello has evolved into one of our favorite producers of small production Burgundian and Bordeaux-inspired wines. Ray Jr.'s focus is always on the fruit. Ray shares a similar vision with consulting winemaker Luc Morlet and winemaker Pierre Birebent - a vision favoring restraint and elegance to in-your-face and obvious.
James Suckling
This cool and compact estate-grown wine comes from an east-facing vineyard block and offers many of the characteristics of the nearby Coombsville AVA. Includes 4% cabernet franc and 3% malbec. Blueberries, violets, dark chocolate and potpourri infuse the aromas and flavors. Full-bodied, velvety in texture and with the structure to age. Drink or hold.
Wine Enthusiast
Lush and layered, this intensely rich and handsomely oaky wine wraps full tannins around dark chocolate, espresso and black cherries for a huge palate impression. Toasted oak, toasted almonds, graphite and tobacco mingle on the palate and linger on the finish.
