2022 Turnbull Sauvignon Blanc Oakville
This aromatic and refreshing wines shows delicate aromas of white stone fruit blossoms, passion fruit, and a hint of wet flint. On the palate, the wine displays a soft entry with crisp acidity, adding structure and lift. Flavors of fresh white peaches couple with lemon zest and mineral notes to add complexity.
Located in the heart of the renowned Oakville appellation, Turnbull Wine Cellars may not be one of Napa Valley’s flashier wineries, but for over a quarter-century, it quietly has made some of the valley’s finest wines. First established in 1979, the winery was purchased in 1993 by present owner Patrick O’Dell. Patrick has turned up the quality dial by dramatically increasing Turnbull’s estate vineyard acreage. Today, with four superb Oakville district vineyards totaling 185 acres (including its 21-acre home vineyard) Turnbull is an exclusively estate-grown operation. Turnbull’s Oakville vineyards, encompassing a diverse array of exposures, soil types and microclimates, are planted primarily to Bordeaux and Rhône varieties. They supply the winery with the fruit for its superb batch of current releases, an enviable “spice rack” of natural resources. Winemaker Jon Engelskirger, who joined Turnbull Wine Cellars in 1998 after stints at Silverado Vineyards, Robert Pepi, and Hanna, is one of California’s consummate artisan cellar maestros, a fact readily evident upon tasting these exquisite estate-grown gems.
