Ardbeg 'Corryvreckan' Single Malt Whisky Islay
Named after the famous whirlpool north of Islay (3rd largest in the world), this malt is a force of nature for experienced sailors only. The nose swirls with an abundance of salty ocean air, tarry smoke and chocolate, while the palate draws you in with intense pepper, currant and dark cherry fruit characters. Follow your nose along the famous road from Port Ellen and you will eventually come to Ardbeg Distillery nestled in a rocky cove on Islay's southern tip. Since inception, Ardbeg has dealt with many trials and tribulations. From over-taxation in the late 1700's, to being mothballed in the late 1900's (much like Islay's indigenous townsfolk), it has seen it's fair share of hardships. Fortunately, a team of dedicated souls from Glenmorangie set about repairing and reviving the distillery and saved this historic brand from extinction. Utilizing divine older stock, they have crafted a few signature bottlings - including this one - that are highly coveted by malt enthusiasts.

Part of the permanent Ardbeg range since 2008, Corryvreckan is created from a blend of standard Ardbeg and Ardbeg aged in virgin French Limousin oak casks. Smoky bacon and seaweed, plus dark berries, prickly spices, walnuts, lemon, and sweet peat on the nose. Sweet and savory on the palate, with more lively spice, woodsmoke, phenols, and licorice. The finish is lengthy, with peat, sea salt, pepper, and black coffee. Editors’ Choice
