Another one-of-a-kind offering from Barrell, this is a blend of 10 year old whiskey finished in Dunn Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon barrels and an 11 year old bourbon from Tennessee finished in rum casks and Port pipes. This is as innovative a finished whiskey as we have tried. There is something to be said for a producer who isn’t afraid to chase flavor with a reckless abandon. We are sure there are some blends that never see the light of day from Barrell, however, when they believe in something as deeply as this, we are a better whiskey community for it! Savor this rarity with your closest friends, and add a little ice for an avalanche of flavor we couldn’t fit in the tasting note.
This will delight your palate with a mélange of sweet and savory character. From its leathery opening to an herbaceous finish you’re going to find an array of flavors including apricot, wood smoke, tobacco leaf, wet stone, cocoa powder, nutmeg, and freshly roasted chestnuts. Hints of honey, lychee, and citrus add some vibrancy to its deep tonal personality. It’s truly a gorgeous whiskey.
We have been really impressed with everything that Joe Beatrice and his team at Barrell Craft Spirits have released. And it’s clear that a panel of highly regarded judges felt the same. To be crowned the “Best Bourbon” at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition is a monumental feat for this rapidly growing, small batch whiskey company. When it is time for a new batch, the team sorts through casks through rigorous tasting to pick the collection of whiskeys that are showing best at that moment, regardless of age, and bottle them at cask strength. The result are completely unique batches of bourbon. We can attest that these one-of-a-kind batches are stunningly delicious. We think you’ll agree.
