Bender’s Whiskey Company 8-year Old Corn Whiskey
Sweet corn, orange creamsicle, vanilla, and a hint of oak lead the charge of explosive aromatics in this whiskey. Layered flavors of butterscotch, oak spice, orange peel and toffee lift the palate to new dimensions. The finish is robust with touches of baking spice and rancio. This unique and interesting spirit conjures up flavors reminiscent of wheated styles of bourbon more so than what most think of for corn whiskey. The first batch of this yielded less than 100 cases, and we took the chance to offer it here first. Give this a shot, we hope you’re as impressed as we were.
It’s been said that nothing worthwhile is ever easy and they wouldn’t have it any other way. It took Carl Bender and Christopher Cohen fifty-two iterations to land on our opening take on a modern whiskey: a complex yet accessible, small batch Canadian Rye called Bender’s. Their first batch was sourced from an independently owned distillery just south of Calgary not far from where one of our founders was born. They worked with this master distiller over the span of a year and half and were given access to the barrel room to blend various rye combinations. The final high proof whiskey was brought to Treasure Island, where it went through a few more rounds of blending before being bottled and released.
