Gundlach Bundschu

One of the more intimidating names of California Wineries to pronounce Gundlach-Bundschu is a family-owned, sixth-generation producer, going back to 1858. Given the obvious German heritage, it is no coincidence Bundshu’s Riesling is by far their most famous wine. And, recently, they’ve emerged as a serious contender in the world of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon. Their self-described “Rhienfarm” is home to 140 year old vineyards, with a climate on the warm side of cool and diverse soils ranging from the clay and gravel basin to the volcanic hillsides. It is the culmination of these raw materials and heritage that make them a winery to look out for. Jim Bundschu is the quintessential down-to-earth farmer, completely devoted to the Sonoma County vineyard land cultivated by five generations of Bundschus before him. Today he serves as the winery's Director of Viticulture and works closely with his son, Jeff Bundschu, CEO and General Manager. Together they approach the vineyards, wines and the world with spirit and open-minds – a synthesis of old world methods and California ingenuity which result in wines that are expressive and truly authentic.
