Ritual Wines

Mike Stan Ritual Wine CompanyVeramonte Estate marks Agustin Huneeus’ Chilean homecoming. The Huneeus name is familiar to many of us in the Northern Hemisphere, synonymous with the renowned for Quintessa Winery in Napa Valley’s Rutherford AVA. With deep Chilean roots, the Huneeus family settled back into the surrounds of Casablanca back when there was less than 100 acres planted to grapes in the region. They would help make this one of Chile’s premiere growing regions. Opening the doors of their strikingly modern facility in 1998, they showcased not only forward thinking architecture, but cutting edge winemaking technology as well. The coastal mountain ranges surrounding Casablanca provide varying microclimates that are suited to the estate’s winemaking philosophy – small-lot production with a keen interest in showcasing the individuality of each varietal and each block. They’ve adopted modern methods of trellising and grow significantly lower yields than some of their Chilean counterparts, a move that increases the intensity and concentration of their wines. Tasting their wares, success seems effortless, but we know just how much work they’ve put into it.
