One of Napa Valley’s hidden gems, the Seavey estate is nestled back into the hills east of St. Helena. A throwback property with charming stone buildings and the feel of a working farm from a bygone era, it is nonetheless a formidable presence in the present day. Robert Parker has gone so far to write that, “there is a strong argument to be made that (Seavey) is the most underrated great Cabernet Sauvignon produced in Napa Valley.” Under the winemaking direction of Philippe Melka – this was actually his first lead winemaking gig in Napa Valley – the wines have never been better. Possessing the ripeness and stuffing one would expect from Napa, there still is a sly tip of the cap to the Old World, logical given the proprietor Bill Seavey’s love of Bordeaux and Philippe’s roots there. This is “great stuff” worthy of your full consideration.
