The Stewart family is part-and-parcel of the new Napa. True, they haven’t been here for generations, but there’s no denying that their roots run deep with enviable vineyard holdings across the Napa Valley. For Slingshot they’ve adopted an attitude that borders on irreverent, preferring not to take themselves too seriously. But let us assure you, their attitude is quite serious when it comes to demanding quality fruit.
Slingshot is their tongue-in-cheek ode to value driven, quality Napa Cab. We’re not quite sure how they managed to pack so much bang-for-the-buck in the bottle, but we’re sure glad they did.
Winemaker Caroline Stewart-Guthrie tells us that the fruit for their Slingshot comes from the Juliana vineyard situated in a warmer corner of the Napa Valley. Here, Cab, Syrah, Barbera and Cab Franc develop slowly and gain all sorts of nuanced flavors. Caroline also gets to call the shots in the cellar, making sure that fruit isn’t overshadowed by anything, let alone a heavy-handed oak-aging regime.
