You can beat this rye at this price for balance and flavor. It is a whiskey that boasts bold flavor… with its hints of spice, and straight-lined oaky tones. But the real star is how the flavors all harmoniously balance one another out creating one of the silkiest rye whiskeys we’ve had in a long while. There’s a punch of spice, but it floats like a butterfly, rather than the sting you get from most high-proof ryes. The palate shows great depth and balance, with bananas Foster, vanilla, and oak dominating the mouthfeel. The finish is a moderate length and brings out some herbal tones. Grab a few and make a batch of Manhattans, you’ll be happy with these in your house-made classic cocktails.
In 1987, Thomas E. Bulleit, Jr., fulfilled a lifelong dream of reviving an old family bourbon recipe by starting the Bulleit Distilling Company. Inspired by his great-great-grandfather Augustus Bulleit, a tavern keeper in Louisville, Kentucky who made a high-rye whiskey between 1830-1860, Tom left a successful law practice and risked everything to experience life on the frontier. Today, we're not the only ones who are glad he did.
