In 1987, Thomas E. Bulleit, Jr., fulfilled a lifelong dream of reviving an old family bourbon recipe by starting the Bulleit Distilling Company. Inspired by his great-great-grandfather Augustus Bulleit, a tavern keeper in Louisville, Kentucky who made a high-rye whiskey between 1830-1860, Tom left a successful law practice and risked everything to experience life on the frontier. Today, we're not the only ones who are glad he did.
Bottled at cask strength, this is a fireball of a whiskey. The nose opens with a bit of heat tempered by butterscotch, vanilla and cinnamon. On the palate this is a resonant beast, full-bodied and has overtones of spice, charred oak, and pepper. A sweet and spice-laden finish brings this beauty to a full stop. Try it with a little bit of water for an entirely new panoply of flavors!
