This quickly became one of our favorite Compass Box whiskies to date! The majority of this whisky is blended from two well-matured Islay whiskies and it shows. Intense aromas of smoke, sweet peat and licorice dominate the initial nosing, but are quickly balanced by salted caramel and citrus. The palate is rich and oily with hints of menthol, cocoa and old leather accenting the sweet malt, mossy peat, and anise that persists from start to finish. A dose of sweet, cinnamon-like spice lingers from the mid-palate through the finish. While this may be the peatiest whisky they’ve ever made, it is inviting and balanced with something for every whisky lover to enjoy. We asked for extra of this one to make sure you get your bottle.
There are some people in the spirits business who are cut from a different cloth, Compass Box's founder and master blender John Glaser is one of those folks. After many years in the wine trade, he entered the Scotch whisky business with Johnnie Walker, where he honed his palate and helped develop the renowned Green and Gold labels. Somewhat frustrated with the limitations of the corporate world, he felt compelled to follow his passion for making great blends. He started Compass Box to, as he states, "nurture the roots of tradition in order to grow the possibilities." An artist, visionary and one hell of a whisky "blendologist," he has successfully conjured up some of the biggest, baddest and sexiest drams we've tasted.
