Johnny was a drummer boy in the Civil War before he went home to Kentucky and built himself a home by a crystalline spring. That spring helped him turn excess corn into a profitable product and, in time, a damn fine bourbon. At least, that’s how the story goes! Johnny comes in hot at 101-proof, with a nose that teases sour apple pie. The palate rolls over fruit, vanilla, sweet caramel and spice in layers that saturate the senses with notable intensity. A touch of smoky brown sugar lingers on the elegant finish. This is a solid value for some small batch intensity.
