La Venenosa Etnica Tutsi Lot #15 Bounty Hunter Private Selection
Tutsi (pronounced "Too-chee") is one of the rarest spirits on earth, this is not hyperbole, there are only a few 45 liter batches produced each year and we chose 3 lots for private bottlings. These are truly one-of-a-kind bottles, and among the greatest agave spirits we've had the pleasure of tasting. Traditionally produced by the Huichol people of northwest Jalisco this indigenous spirit was lost for around 25 years. One distiller in the town of Tatei Kie, Don Rafael Carrillo Pizano, has resurrected Tutsi and is the only maestro currently producing this native spirit. Wild agave Masparillo is harvested, roasted underground with a wood fire, milled by hand with mallets, and naturally fermented in a rock pit before being single distilled in a traditional Huichol still. Truly one of the greatest spirits we can offer you. The beads that adorn the bottle are handmade by local artisans and the colors change with each release.
We loved this pick for its graceful wisps of smoke, complex aromatics from tropical fruit to freshly pressed agave and the lush mouthfeel that will surprise you given its higher proof. This has a real familiar tone for someone who enjoys still strength agave. Pulque, hints of spice, and a sweet undertone round out this impressive array of flavor.
What is in the photo may not be the color beads you receive.
