We are suckers for old single grain whisky around here. The stuff just speaks to us from the heavens and we have to respond. Orphan Barrel blew through their stocks of old bourbon so they've pivoted to whiskies from forgotten (or unknown) distilleries abroad. Port Dundas closed about a decade ago, but there's still plenty of great whisky in hiding and anytime we can offer it up we're going to do so! The aromatics open with a burst of caramel and notes of sugar cookies accented with apple skin and light toasted oak. The palate is fruity and dense, with hints of butterscotch, vanilla, and a wisp of oat which carry through to the finish.

Some of the best whiskeys in the world only came about by accident. Those lost and long forgotten casks that aged a little longer in the back of rickhouses and distilleries became found treasure. It sounds like the stuff of legend and in a way… it is. Sadly, the 70s and 80s saw a lot of American distillers hang up their hats and call it quits. In hundreds of rickhouses across the US, barrels just sat aging… almost forgotten until some folks started taking notice and rescued these precious spirits from obscurity. The Orphan Barrel Whiskey Company was created to share these barrels of rare and delicious whiskey with the world. Each barrel is evaluated and hand bottled to ensure that these uncovered gems are treated with the care they deserve. Some of them will only be available once, and once they're gone, they're gone forever.
