2011 Mastrojanni Brunello di Montalcino
Mastrojanni, founded in 1975 in the southern Brunello town of Castelnuovo dell'Abate, is an immensely influential domaine at the top of their game today. Under the ownership of the Illy family (yes, that one), significant investments have been brought to bear in the vineyard and cellar that have put this property back on top.
"Mastrojanni is on a roll. This extraordinary estate has been enjoying the spotlight lately and very much deserves the attention. I'm adding my name to a long list of their fans. The 2011 Brunello di Montalcino is a classic expression of Sangiovese with soft lines and enduring flavors. You do feel some of the vintage heat, but the ripeness is contained thanks to the delicate and nuanced nature of its fruit. It also shows enormous grace in the mouth. The wine is silky and svelte with long, polished tannins." - The Wine Advocate
"These are quintessential Brunellos demonstrating all the beauty of Sangiovese's earthy, berry, and mineral nuances." - Kerin O'Keefe, Brunello di Montalcino
This wine is all about milk chocolate, dusty black cherries, and thrilling floral perfume in the mouth. It has everything we love about Brunello di Montalcino. We've managed to secure a parcel of this pristine 2011 and offer it to you at a price that is lower than what was our wholesale price. In such a warm, plush, drink-me-now vintage, for a wine of this caliber, we call that a BUY.
