Wolfburn Single Malt Whisky Highland
This "new" distillery is resurrecting a name we've not known in Scotch Whisky since the American Civil War era: Wolfburn. Completed in 2012 just a few miles from the original Wolfburn distillery, it holds the distinction of being the distillery furthest north on the Scottish mainland. They began laying down new-make spirit in 2013.
Their first release is aged three years in bourbon barrels and some quarter-casks (13 gallon barrels) that once held peated Islay whisky, and it is a fantastic first effort. Fresh aromas of pears, sea-spray, lemon curd and a touch of malt, it is bright and zesty on the palate with a balance of citrus and spice accented by a kiss of smoke. An easy finish rounds it all out with a caress of Marcona almond. An easy-drinking whisky that will bring your Rob Roy to a new plateau. 92 proof
