2012 9.19 'Deux Blancs' White Blend El Dorado
There's a sweet story to tell behind this wine. Brian Graham, originally from north Texas and trained at the University of Bordeaux, worked in the vineyards of not only Bordeaux, but Burgundy as well, and now makes brilliant wines at his Napa winery, Ramian. Brian's 9.19 line of wines is named for his daughter, Kelsey's birthday, September 19th.
This wine is comprised of 50% Viognier and 50% Roussanne, two of the most interesting grapes of France's Rhône Valley. Viognier offers body and an outrageously apricotty, peachy perfume. Roussanne is noted for its good acidity, full body, and notes of pears and herbal tea. El Dorado County, east of Sacramento, is the heart of the Sierra foothills. Here the combination of hot summer days and high elevation make this the ideal zone for Northern and Southern Rhône varieties. Because this wine smells so sweet and aromatic, you might assume that it's sweet, but it is indeed dry. Here come the oranges, peaches, fresh herbs, and cream. Shrimp tempura, please.
