2011 Black Grape Society Pinot Noir Central Otago New Zealand
Central Otago, in New Zealand's South Island, is the world's most southerly wine growing region. Being completely surrounded by tall mountains, its vineyards are protected from the maritime climate, making it the only true continental climate zone in the country. The region thus endures large daily and seasonal temperature extremes typical of such geographies. Here you'll find hot dry summers, short cool sunny autumns, and cold snowy winters. It is these climatic extremes that produce wines of exceptional distinction and intensity. This is one of the most exciting zones for Pinot Noir in the world, bar none.
The Black Grape Society is Treasury Wine Estates' specialist project for New Zealand Pinot Noir, the wines made by Nikolai St George of Matua Valley. The wines are based on selected fine parcels of fruit from vineyards sites in different regions in the country.
This 2011 wine has all of the brilliant "ruby" fruit (which is our way of saying bright, candied raspberry fruit) and peppery elegance you would expect from a Central Otago wine.Ahi tacos, please!
