Here’s our own barrel selection the Boyers named after Vincent’s grandfather, Fernand Boyer. The barrels we chose are made up of multiple Meursault village vineyards: Moulin Landin, Les Pelles Dessous, Le Pellans & Le Prie de Manche. This smells like fresh ground hazelnuts, lemon butter, and minerals. The ultimate pairing? Pan-fried lobster filets with a reduction of white burgundy and cream.

The Bounty Hunter "RGS" (really good… um, stuff.) program started around 2009 as something of a happy coincidence. We were in the cellars of Boyer-Martenot beneath the village of Meursault tasting through a few dozen barrels of Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet. Most of the wines we sampled were individual parcels - either classified growth (Premier Cru) vineyards, or "lieu-dits" (named sites) - that were fermented and aged separately, and would be bottled and labeled as such. But there were a few outliers that winemaker Vincent didn't think truly represented the vineyards' terroir or his family's traditional style, i.e. - they had too much oak influence. Given our audience, we pounced. Vincent let us select two of our own barrels from the outlier group to blend together and we literally marked them with chalk as "RGS". We made the commitment on the spot with the help of our import liaison, and there were two fewer barrels the winery would have to worry about bottling and selling. Such began the start of a concept that we would expand significantly on future visits across Burgundy. There is no pat formula to the RGS wines, and certainly no implied obligation that we will select or create cuvées every year. If we don't believe in the wine, we just take a pass. More often that not, however, given the quality of the cellars we visit, we find a few winners. The RGS designation essentially means that we spent a few hours in an individual cellar and tasted through a lot of barrel samples to find a wine that we believe represents not only the essence of the domaine, but a style that will appeal to our clientele: clean, fresh and modern. All RGS blends are proprietary to Bounty Hunter and do not exist anywhere else.About Boyer-Martenot RGS
