2013 Domaine la Bouissiere Vacqueyras
Brothers Gilles and Thierry Faravel are two masters of Gigondas and Vacqueyras, crafting modern, rich wines that nevertheless are imbued with complex aromas of garrigue, the aroma of the Mediterranean countryside.
Vinous flipped for this 2013 Vacqueyras: "Vivid ruby. Mineral- and smoke-accented red berries and candied lavender on the deeply scented nose. Rich yet vibrant, offering sappy black raspberry and bitter cherry flavors and repeating smokiness. Shows excellent clarity and lift on the clinging, mineral-tinged finish, which features subtle tannins and an echo of lavender pastille." Bravo!

Gilles and Thierry Faravel are two talented winemakers who took over from their father, Antonin, in 1988. They are decidedly modernist producers, making clean, precise, rich wines from their 9ha of high-altitude holdings in Gigondas and a few hectares in Vacqueyras. Their father Antonin began domaine bottling in 1979, and previously had sold all of his produce to the village co-operative. These high-altitude vines average 30-50 years of age, and because of their lofty situation just below the Dentelles de Montmirail, they are often some of the last parcels to be picked in the village. If you're looking for power, richness, and peppery punch in your Gigondas, look no further than Domaine la Bouïssière.About Bouissiere
