2013 Domaine Rene Cacheux et Fils 'Les Suchots' Vosne-Romanee Premier Cru, France
"Les Suchots" (Lay SOO-show) refers to a plot of land that has been cleared of forest but still contains "little stumps," or souches. It's a vineyard in Vosne-Romanée, which is home to the greatest Pinots Noirs in the world, let alone France. "Suchots" abuts both the Grands Crus of Richebourg and Romanée-Saint-Vivant, two of the greatest Pinot Noir sites in the world. This wine is redolent of ripe red plums, sandalwood, morello cherries, and a faint gamy note.

Domaine Cacheux is run with efficiency and skill by Gérald Cacheux, using vineyards originally acquired by his great-grandfather, François Blée. The domaine dates from around 1900, when François set up shop in Vosne-Romanée, probably the nicest neighborhood for grapevines in all of Burgundy. Today Gérald harvests by hand, sorts his fruit in the vineyard, and de-stems completely. Wines are vinified in a traditional manner with temperature control. They are matured in oak barrels for 18 months with a percentage of new barrels that can vary between 30% and 70%, depending on the vintage and vineyard.About Domaine Cacheux
