2011 Doubleback Cabernet Sauvignon Walla Walla Valley

The halls of Walla Walla High School offered many paths to success in 1990. For Drew Bledsoe, it meant a scholarship to Washington State University to start as quarterback for the Cougars. By 1993 he was starting for the New England Patriots. In 1990, Chris Figgins, Drew's friend since childhood, was working weekends and learning the ropes in his parents' winery, Leonetti Estate. By 1996 he had "officially" joined Leonetti, and today he is their head winemaker, the man responsible for the 100 point score on their 2010 Reserve Cabernet. When Drew retired from football in 2007, he knew there was only one guy to call to talk about planting vineyards and starting a winery. The friends have collaborated on Doubleback Cellars since then, and the 2011 wine they made is clearly one of the top wines of the vintage in this very late harvest in Walla Walla. (some of the grapes in this wine were picked on November 1, 2011). Wines like this define what we mean by "great stuff," clearly some of the best in its class. The wine has soft tannins, and effuses aromas of fresh crushed blackberry, crème brulée, and a note of allspice.
