2013 Gundlach Bundschu Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma Valley
This is an absolutely top-tier, ageworthy, supple bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon that is going to thrill you for years to come.
Bob Parker’s tasted it all, and he agrees: “The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon from Sonoma shows juicy crème de cassis fruit, black licorice, nicely integrated toasty oak, an inky purple color and a medium to full-bodied delicious style. This is certainly a major sleeper of the vintage and one of the more attractively priced world-class Cabernet Sauvignons coming out of California’s North Coast in this miraculous vintage for Bordeaux varietals. Drink now-2030+.”
Gundlach-Bundschu is one of California’s oldest wineries, founded in 1858. Their glory years came to a halt in April 1906 when their San Francisco winery, located at 2nd and Bryant, was destroyed in the calamitous earthquake and fire.
The modern “Gun-Bun” era begins in 1969, when young Jim Bundschu convinced his father Towle to replant their family’s historic, 100-year old Rhinefarm vineyard just east of Sonoma. Today those replanted vines are 47 years old, and cranking out their best fruit of all time. And it turns out that when your great-grandfather paid off the vineyard mortgage in the 19th century, you really don’t need to charge $80 for your wine.
Jim Bundschu is the quintessential down-to-earth farmer, completely devoted to the Sonoma County vineyard land cultivated by five generations of Bundschus before him. Today he serves as the winery's Director of Viticulture and works closely with his son, Jeff Bundschu, CEO and General Manager. Together they approach the vineyards, wines and the world with spirit and open-minds - a synthesis of old world methods and California ingenuity which result in wines that are expressive and truly authentic.About Gundlach Bundschu
