2011 Marques de Murrieta 'Dalmau' Rioja
Here’s a Rioja from the region’s oldest estate, and a bastion of tradition, presents absolutely stunning quality. This is from 66-year old vines, and boasts aromas of chopped fresh cherries and strawberries, notes of pipe tobacco and fallen leaves, cinnamon, and allspice. On the palate, notes of dried cherry emerge, framed by vibrant acidity. Mercy, this is good!
With more than 160 years in the business, the Marques de Murrieta winery is one of the staples of Rioja. Originated in 1852 when Luciano Murrieta presented the first fine wine of Rioja and exported it overseas for the first time in the region's history, the Spanish wine scene has never been the same since. A family business by any standard, it is now the new generation of Muriettas who are carrying the baton into the new world. From our vantage point, they're doing a great job.
The quality of the Murrieta wines lies in the exclusive Ygay vineyard that surrounds the estate. Located in the southern part of La Rioja Alta, the combination of the Cantabrian Mountains to the north and the distinct Spanish climate do wonders for fruit that wants to be both powerful and pointed.About Marques de Murrieta
