Greg and Petra's 2013 Collector's Reserve is a must. In the brilliant 2013 vintage, it's a wine for the ages, a wine Parker called "An absolutely magnificent wine, but a limited production (about 250 cases), this wine exhibits an opaque purple color and a sweet nose of cedar wood, licorice, blackberry and cassis fruit and darker cherries. The wine is full-bodied, opulent, shows decent acidity, very supple but noticeable tannin, and a terrific, multilayered mouthfeel. This is the best wine I have ever tasted from Martin Estate." We're honored to be able to offer you this beauty!

It's tough to find a Napa Valley winery more loaded with personality than Martin Estate.
Greg and Petra Martin live in a converted old ghost winery in Rutherford, constructed in 1887, where Georges de Latour made the first Beaulieu wine in 1909. If you ever watch Antiques Roadshow, you already know Greg, who is an arms and militaria expert with a massive collection of his own on display at the winery, from ancient suits of armor to relics of the old west. Keeping this outfit cranking along is Petra, a force of nature in her own right, hilariously and refreshingly candid in conversation.
Greg and Petra planted this magical plot to Cabernet Sauvignon in 1996, using the FPS Cabernet Clone 6, which can be traced to the Sierra Foothill Experiment station, planted by UC Berkeley's Dr. Hilgard in 1889, abandoned in 1903, and rediscovered in 1963. Still a rarity, this clone came to be a favorite of the team at BV over the years, treasured for its finesse, true-to-form Cabernet flavors, and concentration.
The next piece of the puzzle is Aaron Pott, a masterful winemaker with a wine degree from the Université de Bourgogne in Dijon and stints at Kongsgaard, Troplong-Mondot in Saint Émilion, and Château la Tour Figeac. His goal is to make a terroir-driven wine, in other words a faithful conveyor of the voice of the soil rather than oak barrels or cellar tricks.About Martin Estate
