2013 Moorooduc Estate Pinot Noir Mornington Peninsula
Established in 1982 by Richard and Jill McIntyre, Moorooduc Estate is a small, family run wine winery that has developed an enviable reputation for terrific wines in the Mornington Peninsula, about an hour south of Melbourne, in Australia's Victoria state. Here the climate is strongly maritime and cool, absolutely ideal for Pinot Noir wines.
We fell in love with this Pinot Noir for its ruby red color, with a bright nose of red and black cherries, black raspberries, violet, lilies and hints of sandalwood spice. It's savory on the palate, with crunchy cherry fruit and darkly exotic spicy notes, in fact with a note we've almost never tasted in Pinot: grains of paradise, a very exotic pepper. Savory, earthy, granitic notes linger on the finish. This is just a terrific introduction to this growing region that we think will have you hooked!
