2010 Poderi del Paradiso 'Mangiafoco' Toscana
This is exactly what Italian Cabernet is supposed to taste like! Spiced red fruits, leather, herbs, pipe tobacco and graphite put on quite the display, while clean lines of acidity and supple tannins showcase the greatness that comes from the heralded dirt beneath the towers of San Gimignano. Gems like this don’t come around too often. Grab yourself a case and prepare for an Italian liquid adventure for the senses.
Poderi del Paradiso, owned by the Cetti family since the 13th century, is an amphitheater of vineyards at the base of the medieval Tuscan town of San Gimignano, known for its skyscraper-like towers built by wealthy nobles during the Renaissance. Here the Cetti family farms about 30 hectares of vines, and with the help of renowned consulting winemaker (and San Gimignano native) Paolo Caciorgna, they produce about 12,500 cases of wine. They also have nearly 1300 olive trees which produce outstanding oil.
In the 1980s the Cettis budded much of their Vernaccia over to Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Chardonnay. Today they produce Vernaccia, a Chianti Colli Senesi, a monovarietal Sangiovese called "Eterno II," and a gorgeous Bordelais blend of Cabernet, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc called "Saxa Calida," or "hot stones."
The Cettis also operate a gorgeous agriturismo on the property if you ever plan to travel to Tuscany.About Podere del Paradiso
